One of the important features the core Joomla! installation is missing is to automatically publish newly added articles on the frontpage. Why would anyone want to auto publish content? There are several reasons for that:
  • You would like to automatically publish articles submitted by your users (community driven websites).
  • You are using some kind of content feed (either from RSS or any other content distribution system) and would like to auto publish new content.
  • You just want to make life easier for yourself and automatically publish every new article you write.
In all these cases all you want is Joomla! to monitor any new articles and once they spotted to publish them on the frontend. Easiest way (if not the only way) to achieve this is to use special plugin. Auto-frontpage is the best free plugin with this functionality.
It can be downloaded here:
http://www.joomlaworld.org/plugins/auto-frontpage.html

What you’ll basically need to do to configure this plugin is to define the frontpage refresh time intervals, fixed articles (the ones you don’t want to be moved) and which sections/categories to monitor.
In addition to the described this plugin will also allow you to republish old articles when you don’t have any new stuff.

Be aware that after activating it your current frontpage articles will be unpublished and replaced with the new ones according to plugin configuration.

It's great but can it be configured not to just include different categories for one placeholder on the front page but to rotate articles from different categories to their unique front page placeholders.
I need to display rotating articles from 9 different categories to 9 different placeholders on the front page. (See site)
